Customer Response

Well made, but some design flaws
I picked this knife up at a local Target for $22. As of this writing, you can find the combo with a free classic knife for the same price or less, so definitely go for the combo instead of this solo Trekker.

Like most Victorinox products, this knife is made of good quality components and tight tolerances. Tool choice is geared towards the outdoors and includes a versatile blade, can and bottle openers, a saw of useful length, screwdrivers, reamer/awl, wire stripper, toothpick and tweezers. No scissors or pliers, though. When opened, the handle is quite comfortable, much more so than the "classic" knives with the shiny red finish. As mentioned, the tool is well made. The main blade snaps into place with a reassuring sturdiness. There's no sideways play in the blade or saw, even given the liner lock.

The problems I have with the knife are both subjective and objective.

For the subjective, it's a touch too bulky for convenient carry (no sheath either), it's better suited for left handers, and I really wish it had a pliers. Of course, if it was smaller it may not be as useful, left handers would rejoice, and inclusion of a pliers would mean it wouldn't be a "One Hand Trekker" tool. This said, it should ship with a sheath because it's too large to fit comfortably in a pocket.

The main blade cannot be as easily opened or closed with the right hand. When opened, the liner lock must be moved to the right to release the blade. This means that you pull the liner lock towards your palm and simultaneously close the blade. It's much easier to push the liner lock away while doing this motion. Though I am right handed, the fact that I can do this easier with my left hand says something about the design. As to the blade itself, I'm not too enamored of the shape. The hole is meant as a thumb catch, hence the odd looking spine. It's arguably more aesthetic than a thumb stud, but alas, because it is not as easy to use as a thumb stud it becomes ugly.

As to rating, I took stars because of the pricing and the problem closing the blade with the right hand. Too bad there's no 3.5 star option, so rounding up to 4.

A Tool I Take Everywhere!
This Victorinox knife is just, in one word, amazing!

I was VERY skeptical at first. I was very turned off to Victorinox knives because
of the counterfit, copy knives.

But I decided to take a leap and buy it... and let's just say I don't regret it at all!

Right out of the box, it is razor sharp. I was VERY pleased by this. After a while that I
used it for starting campfires using flints, cutting ropes, rubber tires, an actual wood table (using the wood saw)
cutting light branches down, I needed to sharpen it. I was also skeptical of the single side blade...
But boy did it shut me up! I started to sharpen, after about 10 minutes... It was sharp!!! Just the weight of the blade on my skin cut me! It's so sharp! It takes the sharpening VERY well, and it KEEPS it's edge very well, even under serious continual use!

Over all, I would DEFINITELY recommend this!!!

Big but handy
The images don't necessarily obscure the knife's size, but it was a little larger than I was expecting. Still, it fits in my pockets just fine and its heft and finish keep it from sliding out when I sit down. The blade itself is sharp, and though I didn't know if I was a fan of the serration, I can't think of any time it's gotten in the way or prevented me from cutting something. The locking flathead screwdriver is a blessing for my thumb's knuckle. The only real complaint I have is that the leather punch is really difficult to get out (not to be attempted by flimsy fingernails!). It's a really handy tool that I use every day.

Great Functionality and Utility
The Victorinox Swiss Army One-Hand Trekker Lockblade is a must have Pocket Knife. Today there are so many knife companies, styles, brands, and configurations that it is easy to get lost in the sea of knife options. The Swiss Army One-Hand Trekker Lockblade is a solid choice of a knife that you will not regret if you don't have the time to do a lot of research.

Basics:
The Swiss Army One-Hand Trekker Lockblade is a 12-item set measuring 4.375 inches long when closed and comes in a black cover. The One Hand Trekker Lockblade is one of only three Swiss Army multi-tools with a one-handed serrated locking blade.

This knife contains the following: 1. One-handed serrated locking blade 2. Bottle opener with 3. large locking screwdriver & 4. wire stripper 5. Can opener with 6. small screwdriver 7. Phillips screwdriver 8. Key ring 9. Toothpick 10. Tweezers 11. Reamer and 12. Wood saw.

Blade:
The blade is made of stainless steel and locks very securely when opened. It is easy to open utilizing your thumb. The blade is half serrated and half straight. The serrated portion is good for cutting rope and cordage. Some people find the serrations as unnecessary but it depends on your particular needs. I find it useful although it does make sharpening more difficult. The blade has a decent cutting edge out of the box but not necessarily the sharpest. It would benefit from a good sharpening before heavy use.

Saw:
The saw works surprisingly well for small to medium size branches. Like any tool don't expect wondrous results when you utilize it for a task that it was not designed to handle. The saw does not lock.

Bottle Opener with large locking screwdriver:
The bottle opener and large straight screwdriver are one solid piece that locks in place when opened which is a great asset. Both tools work as designed with no functionality flaws. The added security of a locking screwdriver is a nice bonus.

Can Opener with Small Screwdriver:
The can opener can take a little getting used to if you have never opened a can with it but nothing that a little practice won't fix. The small screwdriver functions good.

Phillips Screwdriver:
The Phillips screwdriver is heavy duty and solid. It functions very well although it does not have much reach. If you need distance to get to a screw then this will not work. The Phillips is on the backside of the knife and does not lock.

Key ring:
I typically just throw the knife in my pocket so I don't have a use for the key ring. The key ring is good quality and will function well.

Toothpick:
You would be amazed how often a good toothpick comes in handy. Don't underestimate the value of this item. Fits in the knife handle very securely and has never come loose.

Tweezers:
The tweezers are good for small superficial splinters. You don't get a lot of "grip" so they don't work too well for deep splinters or for heavy duty use. Like the toothpick it stays in place very securely in the knife handle.

Reamer:
Be careful with the reamer as it does not lock open and has a bit of play in it which could cause it to accidentally close on your finger resulting in an injury. Like the Phillips screwdriver the reamer is positioned on the back of the knife. Take your time and don't rush when using the reamer.

Overall, the Victorinox Swiss Army One-Hand Trekker Lockblade Pocket Knife is an excellent knife with great functionality, utility and the added security of a locking blade, can opener and flat head screwdriver.

It's the best knife I've ever owned.
Christmas 2005 I bought two of these from Amazon: One for myself and one for my best friend. We both still carry them and they are holding up just fine. I don't know that a day goes by that I don't carry this except when I fly, and then I just feel naked without it in my pocket.

The blade locks, which is obvious from the name, but the flat head screwdriver locks and is a great pry tool at that point. In 5 years I've not had a reason to use the saw blade, but everything else has been used to good effect. For general utility it has been the best pocket utility knife I have ever owned.
