Customer Response
This onion will bring tears to your eyes
This knife is fast! Folks, if you're in a knife fight you're liable to get wet. This knife has a non-slip handle that I find useful, and the draw is fast! It is switchblade fast and the draw and blade deployment is repeatable time after time. I believe this knife can save lives. Your life in particular.
Excellent Knife
I purchased this knife a year or so ago to take to work with me. Being a Merchant Marine a quality knife is always something I'm on the look out for. It is by far my most used tool at work. This was my first ever Kershaw, and I will never use another brand again. This knife is fantastic. The quick opening is great when I've got one hand busy with something else, and the edge holds well after sharpening. The handle grip is fantastic, I have used this knife in the rain, salt water, and with greasy hands and have never had it slip out of my hands. I normally change to a new knife ever couple months, in search for that perfect knife for working on deck with. I have actually bought two more of these knives and they are just sitting in their boxes in my drawer in case the one I carry happens to go overboard. By far the best knife I have ever owned.
Fast, serious blade worth every penny!
The Kershaw Black Blur is the second Ken Onion with Speed Safe knife I've purchased. It is one serious blade packed into a manageable size. Not a knife for your dress pants, but a strong hard use knife for your work jeans and also a formidable self protection piece too. The Speed Safe assist snaps the blade open with authority and the solid liner lock makes it feel almost like a fixed blade when in use. The handle fits my medium -large hand perfectly. The special inlaid grip material affords solid purchase even with wet hands. The blade is straight razor sharp from the factory-a nice change from some other 'lawyer sharp' knives I've purchased recently (Gerber, Buck, CRKT to name three)and re-sharpens with a touch from a good steel. Anyone looking for a great value in a medium/large one hand opening pocket knife should buy this knife.
Takes a lot more than a "flick" to open
I don't know how big your hands need to be before you can simply "flick" one of these to its fully-open, locked position, but mine are either nowhere near that size, or the thumb posts on the Blur need to be rotated and moved out a bit for better leverage. Even using my thumbnail, I cannot exert enough pressure on that painful little nub to actually move the blade at all. I have no delusions of being able to defend myself in a monkey knife fight or anything like that, but if I'm reaching for my pocket knife I probably have something else going on in my other hand, and I just can't work with this thing.
That said, it is very well built with no play in the hinge whatsoever and it seems to hold its edge pretty well. I will never understand the fascination with the black coatings that scratch right off almost immediately, but I guess it looks cool for a few minutes. The balance is not so hot as the blade weighs quite a bit more than the lightweight handle--it wants to roll forward.
It's a great pocket knife, but the "speed safe" gimmick isn't doing too much for me and my babyman hands.
Simply Sharp Good fast and functional.
This is my second Kershaw, I am a former USMC Force Recon combat Veteran.I have used alot of blades in the last 10 years. With money not being an option I would have to say this is the best made knife i have seen in along time.It is extremely sharp and holds a great edge. The handle has a amazing grip to it that helps keep it secure even whith wet hands.I would buy this again it is just that good.
