Great knife
This is an excellent knife. I owned an Endura and this knife feels almost exactly like it. The hole to open it is a little bigger (you can open the knife while wearing a glove) and has more of an 'edge' to it. I read about the other reviewer cutting himself on it and I can certainly tell that the edge is sharp, but I don't think it's sharp enough to cut myself. It fells more 'grabby' to me, less cutting.
It has a good weight, and little notches where you hold your thumb on the knife when it's open. I like these, it gives you more control with your cut.
The steel feels solid and well built. It is extremely sharp. The kind of sharp where you can hold a piece of paper in the air and slice through it w/o tearing. So far it's held an edge fine for me. I'm very impressed.
An no rust forever!
Perfect for boating, coastal use!
The Spyderco Pacific is one of a number of models in a specially designed lineup of compact, lightweight folders offering plain, serrated, and 'SpyderEdge' combo blades crafted in Japanese H1 steel and with a coated titanium clip - all impervious to corrosion. This knife is a bit larger than the regular Salt I knives which sport a modified 3" Sheepsfoot blade. Living in a coastal area means that salt air constantly attacks any metal objects, especially knives. I use knives every day, and they all require strict attention to avoid pitting and corrosion even from a single overnight exposure. After searching for the perfect knife for my needs and my area, I found the Spyderco Salt series. You can use this knife on the boat, at the beach, or on the pier, then put it away even after exposure to salt water - and not have to worry about rust! While I like a plain blade for ease of sharpening, this model's mostly serration will come in very handy for swiftly cutting small stuff or line with relative ease. Tightly machined, secure locking with a recessed release, comfortable thumb ramp for leverage, and nicely textured reinforced nylon handle. The knife comes in a little plastic bag in the typical flat Spyderco cardboard box. No sheath, but the clip is reversible for right or left-handers. I only wish this type of steel and knife was manufactured in the U.S. - but Spyderco is a good company with good products, so you can buy with confidence. This is the only offshore-manufactured knife I will buy. By the way, I fail to see how it is possible to cut one's finger using the oversized 14mm thumb hole considering the Japanese machining tolerances used in production of this superior product.
poor waranty service
I recieved my pacific salt a few days ago. its a beautiful knife although i would prefer g10 handles. I gave a 3 star ranking because i recieved a cut from the opening hole (the hole in the blade that assists in the opening of the knife). I contacted spyderco and was told that if i wanted to ship it back for warranty work i would have to pay for shipping both ways.
