From the Editors

The Native's ergonomic design maximizes cutting ability while minimizing discomfort and fatigue. It's handle pattern comes with two separate finger coils. The Native has Bi-Directional Texturing molded into the FRN handle. Carved out of the locking lever is a David Boye Dent insuring the lock remains safely engaged. The blade is hollow-ground CPM-S30V steel. A black steel tip-up clip can be placed ambidextrously on both sides of the handle via a barrel-shaped screw that doubles as a lanyard.

Customer Response

good combo knife
Spyderco is as advertised, a great knife at a good price. The combo blade works well for my edc. This knife is small enough for your pocket but still large enough to handle big tasks. A very well put together knife!

Kickazzknife
After recently purchasing a Spyerdco Tenacious, I wanted to get a Native. This knife looks much cooler when you get it. The blade looks extremely tactical (way moreso than the online photos herein). It opens and closes with a suredness and has a rock-solid lock. I love that it's smallish compared to the Tenacious (a chunkier knife), however, the Native will be nice in your pocket and good in the hand. It's fairly lightweight too. This knife has a good handle which would suit women's hands too. Great for self defense. My only smallish quirks are that the signature hole in the blade is slightly concealed by the handle. And, I have big thumbs and the steel is fairly rigid on around the port hole, thus making flicking open a bit-of a chore (until broken in). It will take some time to wear this knife in to be able to deploy it smoothly. Until then, this knife will likely have to be opened with two hands. Also, Amazon advertises this knife in a stainless finish. Mine came as a Ti covered blade (black)...?? I'm likely going to buy the stainless one too - b/c I like the black one now that I've got it. PS - super duper sharp. This is a great knife and seemlingly a perfect size (not too small, or too big).
I would like to see a larger version of this same knife.

Rust spots
This is a good knife and prefer it over some of my benchmade for edc. It is super sharp and stays that way. Perfect size. The only downside is that I got rust spotting from normal carrying. My pockets are usually pretty steamy but still shouldn't do that. I had the same problem with the all stainless endura. I stopped carrying that one after a week. In summation, if you don't mind a little bit of rust spotting then this is an awesome knife.

Great product but not perfect.
Spyderco has the best designs and you know it is great quality when you hold one. Open it almost effortlessly with one hand. Press the release to close it and feel again how well it is made. My only disappointment has been that I broke the tip of the blade off. I was totally surprised when it happened and am unhappy with how brittle the blade is. I was able to sharpen it back to a point again but know now that it is not made to be a hard working knife. If you don't have one yet you are missing out.

Nice Everyday Carry
This is my fourth Spyderco knife: three Endura knives (one AUS-8 and two VG-10 steel). This knife is not as long and sports the new CPM S30-V steel. Supposedly it is an improvement over the VG-10. With hardly any use, the razors' edge on the straight edge was lost. Not a big deal as it was still very sharp. Fortunately I have a Spyderco triangle sharpener that was able to restore the edge.

In some ways I still haven't made up my mind about this knife. I like that it's smaller than the Endura, which makes our children's friends less likely to remark, "Oh my, that's a big knife!" Also, it will easily cut through any paper, rope, webbing, cloth, etc. that you throw at it. However, although the ergonomic properties of the knife are touted, I still think that my Enduras fit better. They truly felt like an extension of my hand. That said, this knife feels like the production quality is higher; it probably is, because this is one of the models made at Spyderco's home in Golden, Colorado rather than in Asia.

These are minor comments though. I must recommend the knife because it is indeed a quality product (the lock seems exceptionally strong) and the steel is (no pun intended) cutting edge. The clip is strong and the knife rides high in your pocket. I particularly like the cuts on the spine for your thumb. It's easy to deploy this knife with the trademark Spyderco opening hole. I imagine that people who intend to use this as a self defense weapon won't be disappointed.
