From the Editors

SOG Flash II Straight Edge Folding Knife. Perhaps one of the coolest knives you've ever seen. Forget its wicked-quick blade access, that it handles like a race car on rails, or that it locks up like Alcatraz. It just looks and feels extraordinary. The Flash family of knives feature SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.), which employs a powerful piston lock that is easily released with a sliding button. The Flash II comes standard with glass-reinforced Zytel handle and straight edge, satin finish blade. All Flash knives come standard with SOG's patent pending, reversible bayonet mounted clip that ensures the lowest, most discreet carry possible. They also had the foresight to incorporate an additional safety lock that gives added security when the blade is closed. More on S.A.T.: SOG Assisted Technology works through the balance of opposing high-tension coil springs. As one opens the blade the force to propel the knife open becomes greater than the closing force and the blade will open on its own. The end result propels the blade out once the operator has initiated the one-handed opening action. S.A.T. works so well that right-handers can use their left hand equally well to open a folding knife (of course this works oppositely for lefties). Blade length: 3.5" x .125"; Overall length: 8"; Weight: 3.1 oz.; Edge: Straight; Steel: AUS 8; HRC: 57-58; Handle: Zytel; Finish: Satin; Assembled in the USA. Order yours today! Customer Response

Nice knife
The SOG Flash II is my first assisted opener. I chose the plain blade version as I prefer a full edge on all my knives. First the picture of the knife is out of date. The knife I received has the SOG Arc Lock. Which is very nice and seems to be an improvement over the older version. Two of the serrated versions are pictured with this new Arc Lock models STGFSA-98 and SGFSA-98.

The video of this knife also shows the rounded release knob. According to some videos I have seen the older style was more difficult to actuate the release to close the knife. So I am pleased to get the new version. Kicking the knife open with my thumb and closing it are both easy and without any excessive force required.

The knife arrived with a decent edge. I was able to pop some hairs off my arm easily. However it is not ridiculously sharp so don't think you can shave yourself with the factory edge. It feels pretty good in my smaller hands except the cutout where the middle finger is supposed to rest is a bit deep for me so my middle finger floats above it if I grip the handle firmly. Still feels nice and secure though.

Not sure about the safety feature though as it slides very easy and I could see it activating or deactivating with normal in and out of pocket use. I may use some superglue on it to keep it unlocked which I have read about as a simple solution. I don't see how the knife could possibly open in my jeans pocket. Roughly eyeballing the assisted opening it requires an inch or two of travel before the assist kicks in so I seriously doubt it could kick open in pocket.

Besides the safety switch I am happy with this purchase. I wish they offered a plain blade version with the TiNi black coating and possibly aluminum handle. They have all kinds of options for the serrated combo edge but only one plain blade offering. Perhaps I am in the minority in preferring plain blades.

As far as Amazon is concerned the packaging on this knife was poor. When I opened the box the SOG box was open on one end and the knife was literally outside the box and sliding around in the Amazon box partially out of the plastic baggie the knife was in. They need to package a bit better.

blades
great knife. thought about ordering it for a while and then pulled the trigger. use it for work and boating all the time.

Great EDC knife
Knives are tools and there many, many to chose. If you are looking for a top quality, every day carry (EDC) knife that is well designed, light weight, and functional; then I recommend this one by SOG. It is not a fighting knife, not a camping knife, not a survival knife; there are many to chose for those functions. This is a general purpose, everyday, quality knife. The assisted opening feature is great. It is NOT a switchblade though...a click of the thumb and the blade swings right out for immediate use...one handed operation. It also has the SOG lifetime guarantee. If you want an EDC, general use knife...this is it. You won't even know you are carrying it in your pocket, it's that light!

Worth your money
For 40 dollars it is an amazing deal. If you aren't sure, GET IT! Trust me you won't regret. Also if you want a kickass and honest video review. Go here [...] This dude Nutnfancy is awesome, he rates a ton of stuff honestly. He doesn't get any kickbacks from the companies he rates, so he can be brutally honest. It was his review that made me decide to get this. It's only a 10 minute long video. If you want the synopsis from the video I have copied and pasted it below.

"At this weight and blade size, few knives will compare favorably against the excellent SOG Flash II. It's an ideal larger EDC blade that deploys wicked fast, locks tight, and carries well. The Flash series also shows other makers exactly how to make a pocket clip: removable, hardened stainless steel clip the buries the knife in the pocket. The FRN handle was wisely NOT lined with stainless steel and as such is super light, strong, and surprisingly comfortable. The full flat ground AUS8 blade is one of my favorite designs out there; an excellent cutter. The pivot screw can be adjusted. If SOG Knives were smart they would produce this knife in Desert Digital Camo AND Coyote Brown PLAIN EDGE versions. Unfortunately many of their special edition Flash models come only in less desirable combo edges (yuk). Some may feel the Flash II may not be strong enough for heavy duty, torsional cutting tasks and that may be the case. But for probably 98% of your cutting tasks it should be more than enough blade. And at amazingly svelte 3.3 oz you'll actually have it on you when you need it."

decent knife
-came very sharp
-has a nice blade
-the finger grooves/design are alright but not great
-seems to open slower than the Kershaws I own
-the blade lock works well
-too bad the direction the blade opens can't be switched

overall, pretty good....4 out of 5
